STARFALL: LAST STAND

SOLO UNITY GAME DEVELOPED IN C#
USING RAPID ITERATION TECHNIQUES

Starfall: Last Stand is a first person shooter where the aim is to defend the last human-manned vessel in the universe from endless waves of relentless enemies. Take control of three powerful turrets armed with Vulcan Miniguns to make a last stand against impossible odds. Die with dignity. Kill them all.

This game was produced with the goal of developing an arcade-style game as fast as possible within a very short time span, much like a game jam project. The development process of this game taught valuable lessons about rapid iteration techniques and effective time management.

The final build of Starfall: Last Stand features a fully functioning UI, Main Menu, Game Over screen, Sound Sliders, Difficulty Settings and a High Score system. The game also features fast paced gameplay, adaptive sound design, waves of increasing difficulty, a minimap, two weapon types and a dynamic HUD with multiple player feedback systems.

The game makes use of a few different free resources from the unity asset store, a selection of sound effects from freesound.org and the phenomenal music from Mick Gordon’s DOOM (2016) OST.




DEVELOPMENT STAGES

This game was developed from scratch using rapid-iteration techniques. Listed below are 3 individual documented stages of the project’s development, from earliest to latest. A full breakdown is available at the bottom of the page.



First person-controlled turret with rotational clamping, spin up, controllable fire rate, particle effects, sound and shell ejection.

Turret has been improved, now shows barrel overheating, better shell ejection, better muzzle flash, and post processing effects. Project now features enemy AI and an animated environment with unique explosions & impact effects.

A new, dynamic HUD has been implemented and significant post processing & graphical fidelity upgrades have been made. Turret barrel overheating has been visually improved and a new overheat gameplay mechanic has been implemented alongside a functioning weapon heat bar. Scoring system has been improved, homing missiles have been added.
